Are there different types of coaching?

Yes there are. Coaching can be offered in different situations and is always based on the needs of the individual. Coaching simply refers to methods of helping others to improve, learn new skills, develop potential, find personal success and manage life changes and challenges. Coaching uses tools and techniques to address attitudes, behaviours, skills and knowledge as well as career goals and aspirations and it can also focus on physical and spiritual development. So examples of different types of coaching are; Business Coaching, Personal/Life Coaching, Career Coaching, Performance Coaching, Relationship Coaching and Behavioural Coaching. There can be other types of coaching as well of course, but this outline gives a good idea of the different types.


What is NLP?

Neuro Linguistic Programming is a pseudoscientific approach to communication and personal development created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970’s.

Broken down, Neuro is to do with the brain, Linguistic pertains to the language that you use and more specifically, how you communicate with others. It relates to how you mentally process the world around you and most importantly, how you communicate with yourself. Programming is the way our past experiences, thoughts and emotions affect how we respond to life in the present. if you perceive your mind as your internal operating system, similar to a computer, this is the basis of NLP.

What happens during a coaching session?

Most personal coaching sessions last for 45 minutes up to an hour. How many sessions you have will depend on your needs and what you want to achieve. During a session you and your coach will establish the reasons for coming for coaching, what your goals are and what you hope to gain from your coaching sessions. Your coach will discuss what you want to achieve, i.e. your current position, all the way up to what your hopes and expectations are for the end result. This is an overall description of coaching but everyone is unique and individual. Together, you and your coach will identify your areas of focus, what changes you would like to make and map out the direction necessary to get you there. In terms of NLP your coach will work with you to understand the way that you think, how your thoughts create your behaviours and your emotional states and how you hope to achieve your goals. The way in which you “map out the world” and your primary representational system is key.

How do I pay for coaching?

Coaching sessions are paid for per session and can be paid for by whichever method is mutually acceptable.

Does Coaching really work?

Research shows that over 70% of individuals who receive coaching benefited from improved work/life performance, relationships and more effective communication skills. 99% of people interviewed by researchers saw their experience of working with a life coach as rewarding and 96% stated that they would have coaching again.


Although each client has to be the judge of their own coaching experience, the research and data does illustrate that coaching works and is beneficial for improving the quality of life of people all over the world for many different reasons.
